Why pH & EC Matter
When growing with mineral nutrients — such as coco, hydro, or bottled salt-based feeds — pH and EC directly affect nutrient uptake.
If pH drifts out of range, nutrients become unavailable. If EC is too high or too low, plants can stall, burn, or underperform. This kit gives you the basic tools to stay within safe, effective ranges and keep plants feeding properly.
For new growers especially, monitoring pH and EC removes much of the guesswork and prevents early mistakes that impact yield.
Do You Need This for Organic Growing?
If you’re growing organically in soil, things are far more forgiving. EC monitoring isn’t required, and pH adjustment is rarely needed because healthy soil biology naturally buffers the root zone.
Best practice for organic growers is to treat tap water with Ecothrive Neutralise before feeding. This removes chlorine, chloramine, and excess carbonates, preventing most water-related issues without constant testing.
Some growers still like to check pH occasionally to understand their water supply — this kit is ideal for that — but active adjustment is usually unnecessary in organic systems.
How the Basic pH & EC Kit Works
The EC pen reads in μS/cm (microsiemens), which can be easily converted:
-
1900 μS/cm = 1.9 EC (CF19)
-
0300 μS/cm = 0.3 EC (CF03)
Calibration solutions are included so you can check accuracy and keep readings consistent over time.
Please note: Your pH pen may arrive with a small amount of mineral residue on the sensor. This is normal from factory testing. Simply rinse gently with clean, warm water before first use.
Growell Tip: Always test after mixing nutrients fully, not before. Small changes in nutrient strength can shift pH, so final checks give the most accurate picture of what your plants are actually receiving.
