Rockwool

Providing an inert, airy and unobtrusive rooting environment, the excellent Rockwool / Cultiwool growing medium is perfectly suited to hydroponic grow systems. Rockwool plugs and Rockwool cubes are used to take cuttings, nurture seedlings, and to get small plants established in order to transplant them into your active grow systems. Choose from two sizes of rooting plug (2.5cm or 3.6cm) and three sizes of block (7.5cm, 10cm and 15cm Hugo Blocks).

Rockwool slabs are designed for use with dripper systems. The tightly packed bundles of man-made fibres do a fine job supporting roots and promoting rapid growth rates. The main advantages of Rockwool are its superb water and air retention properties (ensuring roots get the nutrients they need and a vital oxygen supply), compatibility with most growing systems, lightweight nature and cleanliness over alternative options. Rockwool does have a slightly alkaline pH, but this will quickly be corrected after a good soak with pH adjusted water or nutrient solution. Mineral based nutrients are typically used with Rockwool, so you'll need to make sure that you keep an eye on EC levels and closely monitor pH.
