How the Air Stone Round Works

Available in three sizes, these circular air stones are made of porous material, partially encased in plastic with one side exposed. Typically, the small 3-inch round air stones are suited for small reservoirs, the 4-inch for medium reservoirs, and the 6-inch for larger reservoirs.

Each air stone features an inlet nodule inside the ring for connection to an air pump via an airline. When connected, air is pumped through the many pores in the stone. Submerged in water or nutrient solution, the air stone releases numerous small bubbles, creating movement and keeping the solution well-mixed. This movement at the surface significantly increases the amount of dissolved oxygen.

Dissolved oxygen discourages anaerobic microbes that can cause root diseases and provides essential oxygen to beneficial aerobic microbes. An air stone promotes healthy roots and enhances oxygen absorption. The plastic casing protects the brittle porous stone, ensuring durability.
