Strong extraction can create excess negative pressure, causing tent walls to cave in and airflow to drop.
An active intake introduces a controlled flow of cooler, oxygenated air to match your extraction rate. This keeps VPD and CO₂ levels stable, reduces temperature swings, and helps maintain ideal growing conditions across the canopy.
Your intake should always move slightly less air than your extraction to keep odours sealed and pressure balanced. As a guide, use an intake fan one size smaller than your extractor:
If you’re using long duct runs or an intake filter, increase intake speed slightly to offset resistance and keep pressure stable.
Top Tip: Aim for a gentle inward draw on the tent walls – that’s the sign your extraction is stronger than your intake and your carbon filter is sealing efficiently. If the tent walls pull in too much, increase intake speed slightly.
