The Omega Magnetic Ballast is simple but effective. It's not quite as refined as the Omega Digital HPS Ballast, and lacks a few features, like soft start-up and adjustable output, but when it comes to the most important stuff, it gets the job done in style.

The ballast works by regulating the power that's fed to the Omega HPS lamp. This produces a lighting output that delivers rapid growth rates. The output is particularly heavy in the red areas, which drives profuse flowering and fruiting. 

The HPS lamp is dual-spectrum. It puts out red light at high intensity levels, but it also includes some added blues, which help to reduce stretching. This keeps plants nice and compact, which makes more efficient use of the space in your grow room or grow tent.
