The Science

Light Spectrum


For growth, plants mostly use wavelengths of light between 400nm and 700nm.


These wavelengths are known as the PAR range.


For vegetative growth, plants use mostly blue wavelengths (400nm-460nm)
For flowering, plants use mostly orange and red wavelengths of light (580nm-700nm)


Some sodium lamps only produce orange and red light, so can only be used during flowering.


Your Grolux lamp has been spectrum adjusted to emit blue and red light. This means that you can use it throughout vegetative growth and flowering.


How often should you replace?


You won’t have to switch lamps mid-crop, since Grolux lamps emit both red and blue wavelengths of light.


However, over time, lamps naturally degrade and emit less light.


This can have a huge impact on your yield - every 1% of light lost costs you 1% of your yield.


After a year, your Grolux lamp will have lost 5% of its light output – that’s 5% of your yield.


To keep your yields consistent and high, replace your Grolux lamps every 4 – 6 months.

How to Use

• Screw the lamp firmly into the E40 bulb holder fitting of your reflector
• Connect your reflector cable to your ballast
• Ensure the wattage of your ballast matches the wattage of your Grolux lamp
• Make sure your lamp is clean before you switch it on

Replace

• Every 4 – 6 months


Warning


• Never touch the lamp directly – hold it with a clean cloth
• Failure to fit the lamp tightly will cause electrical arcing inside the holder between the centre connector and the solder contact on the lamp
• Sylvania Grolux lamps are hot when running – never touch the bulb, or let it come into contact with anything flammable (including sprays and liquid)
• Before removing them, always allow enough time for your lamps to cool down after switching them off

What fitting should I use the gro lux bulb with? Do you sell the lamp as well?
The Grolux bulb is available separately, & as part of lighting systems. It uses an E40 lamp socket & must be used in conjunction with a ballast. We would strongly advise against running these lamps without as ballast.

What is the color temp on these lights?
The colour temperature of a Grolux is 2050K.

hi please can you tell me the lumens output of the 250 Watt Sodium Grolux and will it work ok with the 250w Maxibright DigiLight ballast thank you for your help
The 250 Watt Grolux will give out 37000 lumens, they will work well with the 250W digilight ballast.
