Top Additives to Boost Yield in Hydro!

Top Additives to Boost Yield in Hydro!

Alex Grady

To boost your yield in a hydro system, start with your feed.

Here's what you should be doing.

1. Rooting Boosters

To boost your yield in a hydro system, start with your feed.

Here's what you should be doing.

Rooting Stimulator

Something like Canna Rhizotonic or SHOGUN Katana Roots are great to use through veg. For clones, Clonex Rooting Gel also seals the cut.

Rooting Enzyme

These clear away dead roots and debris to make space for new root growth. Something like Hygrozyme and Cannazym is just the thing.

Katana Roots vs Water

Beneficials

Beneficial biological products, like Great White Mycorrhizae and Ecothrive Charge & Biosys are worth checking out. They colonise your rootzone with microorganisms that have a range of functions.

Look out for one that contains Mycorrhizae - they feed roots nutrients and water!

2. Flowering Boosters

Sounds obvious. But you'd be surprised how many people don't do this.

'Wait! Don't bloom nutrients give plants eveything they need!?" we hear you cry.

Yes, but flowering boosters turbocharge flower formation. Especially if you use the right ones together. Really, you want to use at least a:

  • PK Booster: provide the building blocks for flowering (P & K)
  • Bloom Stimulator/Booster: force plants to use the building blocks (boost metabolism)

PK Boosters

PK boosters, like SHOGUN PK Warrior and Canna PK 13/14 provide a rich supply of readily available potassium (K) and phosphorous (P). These are the fundamental raw ingredients needed to develop fruit and flowers.

Bloom Stimulators / Boosters

Bloom stimulators, such as SHOGUN Active Sumo Boost and Canna Boost Accelerator, force plants to use more P and K.

3. Silicon Enhancements

A stronger, tougher plant will always yield more than a weaker one – there's no doubt about it.

Exposing your plants to Silicon, either as a root feed or foliar spray, thickens cell walls with endless benefits.

  • Pests find it tougher to penetrate the surface of plants

  • Enviormental factors (like wind) have less of an impact

  • Bigger leaves can absorb more light for photosynthesis

  • Thicker stems can support heavier yields

We could go on, but we already went to town in Why Plants LOVE Silicon. Give it a read.

Silicon

Don't forget

Almost everything you feed your plants has implications on your yield size.

The heavy hitters are listed above, but there are a few other products well worth checking out.

Superthrive

Stress Relivers

The provide stress relief and acts as a general health booster - like SuperThrive.

They're great for reducing the stress of cloning and potting on.

SHOGUN CalMag

CalMags

These contain calcium and magnesium to prevent and treat nutrient deficiencies. They also encourage PK uptake. Both Bloom CALMAG and SHOGUN CalMag are great shouts.

SHOGUN CalMag actually includes extra Iron – an element that greens up.

SHOGUN Dragon Force

Late Flowering Feeds

Replace your regular nutrients with one of these in the last two weeks before harvest to ripen fruits and boost their final size and weight.

A good one is SHOGUN Dragon Force.

Hint
Don't push too hard and overfeed plants - too much of a good thing can make you sick. Make sure your nutrient strength stays inside the safe range.

Did You Know?

Can altering nutrient strength and feed times at critical times actually have an influence on yields? Find out more about it here.
