Time To Replace?

You replace your lamps – but at least 50% of light hits your reflectors – why wouldn’t you change them, too?

Every 1% loss of reflectivity costs you around 0.5% of your yield.

To maximise yields, replace your GAVITA reflector every year (that’s 1172 hours in a typical growing cycle).

About the Reflector

Get more plant usable light for a lot longer with a GAVITA HR96 reflector.

They’re the standard ones supplied with GAVITA Pro Classic & E-Series lights.

Each reflector’s got a 96% reflective vega/MIRO® aluminium surface which loses only 1% of reflectivity for every 1,000 hrs of use. That’s almost a full growing cycle - amazing!

You’ll get a medium light spread (thanks to the 138o beam angle). Just what you need for overlapping light, uniform growth and deep light penetration.

You won’t believe how precise the design, production & testing process is. Each reflector’s a work of art and hand assembled by a single person.

But it’s no surprise they’re good! They come from the Netherlands – the Greenhouse capital of the world!

They’re easy to fit, too! You don’t need any tools – just your hands.

Replacement reflector for GAVITA Classic & GAVITA E-Series lights
96% reflective vega/MIRO® aluminium surface!
Loses just 1% of reflectivity over 1,000 hrs of use
• Optimum, even spread of light (138o beam angle)
Deep cross penetration - light reaches plants from all angles, like sunlight!
• Great for light overlap– for an intense, even spread of light
Uniform growth – thanks to a lot of overlapping light
Easy to fit – plug and play!

The Science

Why do reflectors lose reflectivity?

Over the time, heat from your grow lamp causes reflector surfaces to oxidise.

They also get covered in dust, dirt and residue from foliar sprays.

If you’ve got a humidifier and aren’t using filtered water, calcium and mineral deposits from unfiltered water build up on the surface of your reflectors, too.

This results in a 10% reflectivity loss over 3 months.

You can clean reflectors, but they’ll never be as efficient as a new one.

When should you replace your GAVITA reflectors?

When it’s costing you more in yield not to.

GAVITA reflectors lose 1% of reflectivity for every 1,000 hours of operation.

If you have a humidifier and aren’t using filtered water, you’re looking at a 10% loss of reflectivity over 3 months!

We recommend replacing them every 12 months - that’s 1172 hours, based on a standard growing cycle.

How much yield can you gain by replacing reflectors?

Light loss is directly proportional to a loss in yields. Every 1% loss in light results in a 1% loss in yield.

Since at least 50% of light emitted by your grow lamps is reflected, a 1% loss of reflectivity results in an overall light loss of 0.5% (1% of 50% = 0.5%). And that’s an underestimate!

What’s light overlap?

Light overlap is where one spread of light crosses into another spread of light.

In areas with overlapping light:

a) Growth is more uniform – you get a similar light intensity across a larger area
b) Light is more intense
c) Light reaches plants from more angles (like sunlight) - there’s much better penetration

To get light overlap, you need to choose the right size and shape reflector (GAVITA reflectors are designed specifically for it).

We recommend positioning your reflectors at a fixed height at the top of your growing area.

You’ll get a lot more light overlap, creating a uniform, even light intensity across your entire area. You’ll get phenomenal results!

Rather than dimming lights to build up intensity, plants grow towards the light and a higher intensity. You get none of the problems associated with dimming lights, either (loss of spectrum & loss of penetration).

The Production Process

First, was the design. A 3D software modelling tool was used to painstakingly map out all light reflections. They had to be spot on to get very highest, most uniform light intensity possible that penetrates past the canopy layer.

Then came the testing – and it was gruelling. A custom moulded reflector was rotated in a blackened room to check the light reflection and light footprint from all angles.

Now: Each one’s hand assembled by a single person. Some components are factory made, but that’s it.

Finally: The Testing! Each lighting system is assembled and activated to make sure it works exactly as it should. That’s why there are slight burn marks on new bulbs (they disappear after 10 minutes of use).

With a team of just 20, quality control is easy – nothing gets missed. If it did, not to worry – all GAVITA products have a 3 year warranty that we will honour.

How to Use

Replacing your reflector

Each reflector’s easy to install – just watch the video above!

Cleaning your reflector

A clean reflector is never as efficient as a new one. But if you do want to clean your reflector:

• DO NOT touch the reflective material with your hand
• Clean with a dry soft cloth, do not scratch the material
• NEVER polish a reflector, you will scratch the surface.
• Replace your reflector every year for optimal efficiency
• Never use detergents, some vinegar might work for calcium spots (make sure you rinse with distilled water after to prevent spots)

Positioning reflectors

Rather than adjusting the height of your reflectors as plants grow, keep them at a fixed height at the top of your growing area.

The principle is that you don’t light plants, you light rooms.

By keeping your reflectors at a fixed height, you’ll get a lot more light overlap, which will create a uniform, intense light in throughout your room.

Rather than building up your light intensity when you first put plants in your tent, they start off further from the lights, and grow into the intensity.

This also means you get none of the problems associated with dimming your lights (loss of spectrum, loss of penetration).
