Enjoying The Fruits Of Your Labour (GroWell Grow Diary)
Harvesting fruit from your indoor garden is without doubt the most satisfying moment in the growing cycle. You’ll certainly find that other aspects are very enjoyable too, like nurturing the young seedlings for example, but finally getting to reap the rewards of a crop is what it’s really all about! After careful consideration of the methods you can use to collect the goods produced – the “all-in-one harvest”, the “two stage harvest” and the “gradual harvest” – our resident expert Keith outlines when and how to apply each technique before explaining what he chose to do with his own twilight chillies.

LED Grow Lights – Do they actually work?
Evidence. It’s what we all need to see when claims start to circulate regarding something revolutionary, something game-changing, something that on the surface of our understanding sounds far too good to be true! And yet, more often than not, word of mouth can spread like wildfire without actual proof of results ever being present, a facet of modern times largely down to the fast and open nature of the Internet. For most members of the indoor gardening community, the repeated boasts of “superior technology” and “enhanced plant growth” made by manufacturers of LED grow lights certainly seem attractive and plausible. But where are the reports on research and testing, the side-by-side comparisons with existing lamps, the clear, concrete, undeniable evidence? Have a look... we can't find any! Keith sets out to throw light on this issue in a series of articles examining the effects of using various LED units to raise plants at different stages of the life cycle. Join him on his journey!

Switching to the flowering stage
Switching to the flowering phase is a seminal point in the growing cycle, as you finally move on from vegetative development to fruit production. Obviously there are several key changes that need to be made to the way you grow your plants during the last 8-16 weeks of a crop, most notably regarding lights on times and nutrients. Our expert grower Keith looks a little closer at the all-important process of switching to flowering, in both soil and hydro set ups. It’s a helpful starting point if you’re new to indoor gardening and a good refresher for more experienced members.

This post should be particularly interesting for growers using bubbler systems, as some handy tips are highlighted that make the feeding process a whole lot easier.

The settling in period after transplanting (GroWell Grow Diary - Day 90)
Four days have passed since the plants were transplanted into their main systems, with the bubbler system now holding the hydroponically grown plant, and an eleven litre pot at last accommodating the soil based one. It's a good time to check and see how they are getting on...

Introducing plants to a main system (GroWell Grow Diary - Day 86)
Moving home causes even the calmest, most organised person a certain degree of stress and for your plants the equivalent situation is no different. Several factors are absolutely vital to the process of transplanting plants into a main system, including their stage of development and overall health, as well as your preparation and choice of products for the task. Our chilli expert Keith uses his latest blog post to outline the steps that he took to successfully relocate a young plant, already in a transplanting cube, from propagator to the final destination of bubbler system. It’s definitely worth a look, given the huge importance of this skill!

GroWell Grow Diary - Day 47
This is the second half of my transplanting exercise and I am now going to focus on sorting out the soil plants. I decided to separate them from the hydro equivalents because there are two very different procedures to complete despite essentially being the same process.
Transplanting soil-based plants proves far simpler than transplanting hydroponically grown [...]
