Introducing Rhizo-Pots!

Massive roots, minimum effort!

The humble plant pot has always tended to be a starting point for beginners wanting to eventually move on to a more advanced growing system, a cheap option for those with tight budgets and an old favourite amongst traditional gardeners. However, this all looks set to change thanks to RhizoPots!

You could be excused for thinking that there’s little room to innovate with something as simple as a plant pot. Yet the clever folks behind Rhizo-Pots have managed to prove the doubters wrong, developing a highly imaginative and – even more importantly – incredibly effective new design capable of significantly improving plant growth!

Established growing method, fresh thinking product

Nothing is more familiar to a gardener than growing a plant in a pot full of media. Rhizo-Pots brings this basic technique bang up to date, so you still systematically water plants from the top but get much, much better results!

It almost sounds too good to be true, right? In the quest to understand why you are able to enjoy such success, direct your attention towards the unique fibrous structure of the material used for each product. By allowing you to fully harness the phenomenal benefits of air pruning roots, the products actively stimulate secondary roots to branch out from your plants! You can then expect to find additional root development, increases in overall root mass, better nutrient and water uptake, and quicker growing times due to the additional amounts of air able to get in and around the roots. Take a closer look at Rhizo-Pots by clicking here.

The nitty gritty!

As a plant grows, roots are sent out into the soil. When these roots hit the inner wall of a standard plant pot they will change direction and begin to circle – sometimes causing your plants to become root bound and potentially limiting their ability to take up nutrients and water. The fibrous construction of Rhizo-Pots encourages the roots that reach the pot wall to continue forwards and start growing through the foam-like substance. Once the root tip hits the air, it stops growing and stimulates the plant into sending out two new roots. This air pruning process continuously repeats leading to exponential root growth with no circling whatsoever.

Rhizo-Pots are sold flat pack for easy storage and work well with all types of growing media. Six different sizes exist - see the table below for the maximum number of each pot that will fit onto our five Garland Trays.

Can these pots be used outdoors? Or would they degrade too quickly. Thanks.

      Hi Mike,

Rhizo-Pots are fine to be used outdoors, we've actually seen people growing trees in them!

      Kind regards,

      Hi,

In our experience, yes, a Rhizo_pot will outperform a solid plastic pot. In a 1m tent, you can grow anywhere between 1 and 16 plants, but for adequate spacing for larger plants I would recommend between 6-9 plants although this is entirely dependent upon the final size of the variety of plants you want to grow.

Hi Phil, we have been sending lamps by mail order for well over a decade now and our packing department are experts in safeguarding your products from over enthusiastic couriers. We have very few issues with broken lamps. If the worst does happen though, give us a call or email and we will instantly send out a replacement and pick up the broken product at no cost to you. I doubt this will ever be a problem though!

Hello, what is the height and width of the pots? Also, does any water leak from the sides of the pots when watering from above?

Hi Jay, the Rhizo-Pots product page has been updated with the dimensions of the pots. For quick referencing I shall also put the height and width of the pots below:

      12 Litre Rhizo-Pot – 25cm x 25cm x 22.5cm (Height)
      16 Litre Rhizo-Pot – 30cm x 30cm x 27cm (Height)
      30 Litre Rhizo-Pot – 35cm x 35cm x 31cm (Height)
      39 Litre Rhizo-Pot – 40cm x 40cm x 31.5cm (Height)
      56 Litre Rhizo-Pot – 40cm x 40cm x 38cm (Height)
      78 Litre Rhizo-Pot – 50cm x 50cm x 40cm (Height)

When you have filled the Rhizo-Pots with your chosen media and introduced your plants, there may be a tiny bit of dripping when you carry out feeds but nothing that a Garland Tray can’t protect your floor from. Keep an eye out on our blog because we intend to show you and other growers just how good these products are at delivering results!

Hi Tom, they do look like that don’t they!? Rhizo-Pots are very “bag-like” in that they are constructed from a felt like fabric and only really take shape when filled with growing media. In a way, they kind of are a bag with handles, but our tests using these Rhizo-Pots show that they are very effective growing containers. The handles are there to help you move the larger sized pots once filled as they would otherwise be very tricky to move. Please let us know if you have any other questions!
