Intro
Reflective sheeting plays a pivotal role in successful grow rooms, greatly improving the impact of available light and effectively enclosing open spaces when required. Factors including thickness, reflectivity, pattern and material differentiate each sheeting option – even more so now with the birth of new technology!
Specular Reflection
Light reflecting off of specular material
On smooth flat surfaces, the angle that an incoming ray of light arrives from is the exact same angle that the mirrored outgoing ray of light takes as it departs. We call this Specular Reflection.
Under close inspection, almost every type of reflective sheeting is made from natural specular material. Those products with bright and shiny characteristics are typically considered to be more reflective.
The Diamond Standard (Specular Reflection)
Reflex Diamond Sheeting ranks highly on quality and performance. The unique diamond pattern design distributes light with even coverage, practically eliminating areas of intense light and heat (i.e. hot spots).
Cost Cutters (Specular Reflection)
For serious attempts to keep your costs down, there’s Reflex Total Blackout and Black/White Sheeting. Both prove significantly less reflective than our diamond variant, but still do a good job covering grow room walls and floor space to create a light tight area!
Diffuse Reflection
Light reflecting off of diffuse material
A rough reflective surface causes light to scatter off in infinite, unpredictable directions resulting in more uniform and widespread coverage. We call this Diffuse Reflection.
At the microscopic level, only ORCA Grow Film is natural diffuse reflective material. Benefits of diffuse reflectivity in your grow room are that all areas get higher, more consistent light levels – increasing yields across your entire crop!
Explore ORCA! (Diffuse Reflection)
ORCA Grow Film offers phenomenal 94% reflectivity – a quite remarkable statistic! That means only 6% of the light from your lamps is absorbed upon reflection, with the remainder bouncing back unaltered in colour towards your plants. The non-shiny nature of the highly reflective ORCA Grow Film goes to show that glare doesn’t always represent reflectivity!
Wasting Light?
Reports on the high reflectivity of ORCA Grow Film and Reflex Diamond Sheeting are all well and good, but how can you tell that they actually make a difference to grow room light levels? Quite simply, by putting your trust in a Lux Meter! This useful accessory accurately measures output of lumens, allowing for the closer management of light distribution across your crop and the early detection of lamp deterioration.
