There seems to be a booster for everything these days – flowering, vegetative growth, plant health, roots… the list goes on. It can be quite confusing, so here’s our guide to the wide range of root boosters that we supply and what each of them will do for your plants.

Like Flowering and vegetative growth boosters, root boosters and stimulants are not a requirement for a successful grow but can seriously increase root mass, nutrient uptake, health, efficiency and protection from infection if used correctly. They can also help make tired, old or difficult cuttings more viable and productive. Once again we offer you a wide selection of products from around the world that are all tried and tested popular products. Many customers have their own favourites, we recommend you try different products out and find which ones work best for you. These boosters and stimulants are not feeds and should be used in conjunction with your preferred nutrient solution.

Old favourites

Rhizotonic

This root node stimulant from Canna is very popular for rooting cuttings, either as a spray or for wetting the rooting medium. It is made from vegetable extracts and also contains vitamin complexes which are good for stress relief when transplanting. It will also increase the plants resistance to illness. Thin brown liquid, mixes well with no sediment. Suitable for soil, hydro or coco.

Canna instructions: 5ml to 20 Litres

Superthrive

Natural vitamins and hormones for healthier faster growing plants. Very good for stress relief, shock and reviving plants. An old favourite which we have been selling for ten years now – we sell more now than ever! Will boost any stage of growth. Derived from natural sources. Suitable for soil, hydro or coco.

Superthrive instructions:: Various dilution rates depending on use.

GroWell recommends: for stress relief and transplanting 10 drops per litre. For normal everyday use 1 drop per litre.

Nitrozyme

This contains natural growth enhancers, exotic micro nutrients and bio-stimulants. This product boosts whatever stage of growth you are in. It is a strong hormone boost so don’t use during the 2 or 3 week cross over period from vegetative to flowering. Its promotion of vigourous new growth means it is often used as a spray to prepare mother plants for taking cuttings and also is popular in soil or hydroponics. This is a thick dark solution which mixes well into solution. Suitable for soil, hydro or coco.

Nitrozyme instructions:

For hydro systems 5ml per 10 litres

For foliar feeding 1ml per litre

For soil gardening 2 – 5 ml per 10 litres

Root Juice

A popular root booster from Bio-Bizz to complement their range of soil feeds, additives and boosters. This 100% organic stimulant can also be used in hydro or coco and will stimulate the biological activity around the root zone. Contains humates and other secret ingredients. Very popular – particularly in soil and coco.

Bio-Bizz instructions: Use on just rooted cutting for 1 week, 1 to 4ml per litre.

GroWell recommends: use as instructed, then use once a week during the rest of vegetative light cycle at 2ml per litre, or experiment.

Vita Link Bio-Plus

Another excellent product from Vita Link. It combines natural plant hormones, vitamins and co-factors to help with everything from boosting growth to relieving stress. It also contains beneficial bacteria and fungi to protect the root zone from infection and to stimulate root growth and increase root mass. That’s a lot of good stuff in one bottle.

Vita Link instructions:

Cuttings & transplants – 2ml per litre

Hydro-systems – 1ml per 10 litres

Relieving stress – 5 to 7ml per 5 litres once a week

Soil – 1ml per 5 litres every 2 or 3 weeks

Vita Link Bio Pac

100% Organic. This comes in a tub as a powdered soluble bio stimulant with Nitrogen fixing and growth promoting bacteria. It also contains many other natural ingredients including humates, yucca, sea kelp, amino acids, essential proteins, vitamins, root growth factors and sugars. This product is soluble and can be used in hydroponic systems as well as in soil or coco.

Vita Link instructions:

Soil and hydroponics – 1ml per 4 litres (or 1g per 8 litres). Repeat treatment at every change of nutrient or once a week.

Stress recovery – 2ml per litre

Propagation cube treatment – 2ml per litre

Trichoderma Powder Tri 003

Comes in a small 10 gram tub of water soluble powder that will inoculate approximately 30 plants. It contains Trichoderma harzianum fungus that will stimulate root growth in young plants, suppress undesirable micro organisms and protect the plants from disease. Canna put this in their bags of coco, which is one of the reasons that coco is very good at rooting cuttings. Apply this before or during sowing, the re-potting or the sticking of cuttings.

Canna’s instructions:

Dissolve 1g in 1 litre of water, apply once.

Hygrozyme

Another top secret formulae, this time from the enzyme specialists from Canada, Sipco Industries Ltd. This is 100% organic (OMRI listed) and is also bacteria free making it perfect for hydroponics. It contains many active enzymes with unlimited shelf life and has been laboratory and field tested with proven results. With 30 years experience specialising in producing enzymes, were not surprised this solution from Sipco’s plant sciences division is very impressive. Seriously increases root mass, nutrient uptake and plant growth. As the enzymes are not associated with bacteria, H2O2 can be used in low ppm with this product. Will work well with any feed, nutrient package. Good for soil, hydro or soil.

Hygrozyme instructions:

Seedlings – 6ml per 4 litres

Cuttings – 6ml per 4 litres

Hydroponics – 8 to 10ml per 4 litres

Soil – 8 to 10ml per 4 litres

Foliar – 4 to 6ml per 4 litres
